I have a PrimaLuna line stage preamplifier that is exceptional in front of the right amplifier. PrimaLuna has been ignorantly bashed on occasion in the past simply because of that fact that they're not built close to home -- in Europe, Canada, or the U.S. However, they ARE designed in the west. Distributed in the UK by Absolute Sounds and costing £2698, the Prima Luna Evo200 Integrates amplifier offers a great deal of versatility in that output tubes can be swapped out from the supplied EL34s. Janine Elliot gives it a whirl. I first got my hands on a PrimaLuna amplifier when I was temping at a HiFi shop in Bedfordshire in the noughties. The PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium (albeit in HP configuration so with 8 tubes rather than 4) is said to be the affordable alternative for the Audio Research Reference 75 SE. I rolled the EL34s to KT150s even though the EL34s sounded great the KT150s sound phenomenal at whatever volume level I am listening. Kevin Deal of Upscale Audio and PrimaLuna US is that kind of guy.
